Day 22

Route : Methven – Harper River

Length : 18 km (297 km)

Wayne was so nice to drive us a little further than agreed along the road because of the heat, as this section would have been really exhausting. Later we made a short cut over Lake Ida. We went swimming there for refreshment

Day 23

Route : Harper River – Harper Hut

Length : 10 km (307 km)

We just made it to the hut before the announced rain. Another German was already waiting for us there. Later we smoked together and played a few rounds of cards. The new game Datsch demanded quite a lot from our battered short-term memories. Dasch is a card game that the German taught us. The object is to remember 4 cards that are on the table in front of you and to reduce their value round by round in order to win the game

Day 24

Route : Harper Hut – Lagoon Saddle

Length : 13 km (320 miles)

Today we rested on an island in the middle of a dried up river. There was a bearded tree on the island

Arrived at the hut I was first frightened by a dog

A lagoon, as the name of the hut had promised, was not to be seen far and wide. Therefore, we made our way up the creek to look for it. To our disappointment, the lagoon was only a pond. It was enough for swimming.
