Belém

Nowadays one of Lisbons districts used to be a small fisher village. The proximity to the river made it a perfect place for seafarers to land. I saw a couple of pictures where the waterfront was a lot closer to the monastery on the next picture. But I haven’t figured out, yet, what has caused the change.

This dish is a typical Portuguese dish, strangely similar to German cuisine.
In the back of the next image is the Monument of Discovery (Padrão dos Descobrimentos). Carved in are many important discoverers from the 15. and 16. century.
At Pastéis de Belém the produce and sell 30000 Pastéis per day, in average. One of the waiters told me that it can be up to 50000 on a sunny Sunday. And I can tell you why, they are delicious.
