Day 5 – Los Arcos
25 km (139 miles) 5h
Today was somehow a hard day. Not really physically, but mentally. Somehow every kilometer feels like three, I was cold and my feet started to show pretty fast. Yesterday evening and this morning everything felt great. I suspect that my body could have used a little more rest
Since it’s not yet high season, a lot of hostels in smaller towns have closed, so I had to hold out until Los Arcos. Well, 25 km is not a little, but compared to yesterday a stone’s throw
A good pace for me seems to be between 5 and 6 km/h. Therefore I was already around 12.30 o’clock in Los Arcos. First I got something to eat, ate, showered and rested a little. Good that there is nothing going on here. Otherwise I would still be distracted from resting. However, I also can not go to sleep early.
The people:
After the first stage, there was only one hostel in a monastery. Therefore, you got a good overview of who else is on the road with you. The mixture is really very interesting and unexpected
To the few obligatory Germans join two Danes (father and son), a Dutchman (on the wheel of Holland on the way) and the rest distributed over different nations. The surprise was that of the 30 or so people, eight were from Korea, not all traveling together. I asked one of the Koreans how they came to be walking the Camino. It seems that recently a Korean superstar opened a temporary hostel on the trail. Like Hape Kerkeling, word of the fame spread quickly.
