Day 14 – Mansilla de las Mulas
37 km (429,8) 8,5 h
Yesterday I had a pain in my left foot for the last five kilometers. After I took off my shoes, I didn’t feel anything. I thought it was exhaustion from yesterday’s long day. This morning, after putting on my shoes, it hurt again. It turned out that my ankle was or is a bit swollen. Well, I thought to myself, it will run out. It did on the whole. Now after arriving in Mansilla de las Mulas it is hardly swollen. However, I am completely dead after today’s 37 km
Tomorrow to Leon there are still 18 km. I will book myself into a hotel there a bit to explore the city and go out in the evening. In the hotel I can then, unlike in the hostels, sleep in. The hostels you are kicked out at 8 o’clock at the latest.
Yesterday I met a young Spaniard who walked the Camino de Santiago from Rome last year. That is 3000 km. And because that was apparently not enough, he has made in completely without money. The complete route only with donations and the shelter of the hostels. That’s what I call a challenge.
Today I ran the length on from two option. The actual route went almost all the time along the road, mine through a small forest and past fields. That was worth it in my opinion. However, there was also only one small store on the route, where I got myself bread (barra de pan) and cheese. This I have then shared with two cute cats. After that I had 23km in solitude ahead of me. Exhausting but beautiful
Here in the hostel I met a man who is very religious. He offered me to heal my foot with God’s word. I agreed because I didn’t really understand what he was saying. I was a little embarrassed when he laid his hand on me. Well, it certainly won’t hurt
Later he told me that he has already walked the Camino and is now on his way back to Santiago. He collects garbage from the street and the paths all the time. A real hero in a dirty world. It is unbelievable how much garbage is just thrown on the street. With the garbage that I see so, I must also unfortunately assume intent. Of course, something falls down unintentionally, but when it’s whole filled MC Donald’s bags, it’s a bit unbelievable.
I had ordered the pilgrim menu at the end of the day in a restaurant. I specifically asked if there was a vegetarian option. After getting it out of the way that fish is not one of them, I only got tuna on my salad
