Day 19 – Foncebadon
27 km (527) 6h
Today the vegetation has changed considerably. Trees as far as the eye could see. Unfortunately, it was not very much to see through the soup in which I walked (max 300 m).
There are very many conifers, which I do not know from home. The crown is round and so pointedly ascending, like our firs
Foncebadón is 1400 m above sea level. That means I climbed about 600 m today. Tomorrow it goes again slightly uphill and then 1000 m down to the next day’s destination
Yesterday I had accumulated a large crowd of people in the hostel. Today, strangely enough, no one is to be seen of it. Some will certainly have stopped a place before, but that except for the Swiss no one has arrived here, is quite strange
I think a lot about how little you can get by with here. You just don’t have as much storage space as you do at home. Especially when walking every day, you realize what you urgently need and what just falls to you as ballast
I would say I have already reduced to a minimum as far as possible. I packed five pairs of socks, three pairs too many. In the evening I walk around with flip-flops and during the day two pairs would be perfectly sufficient for me. One gets hand washed in the evening, the other gets worn. I feel the same way about underpants. Although three is probably a good measure here. Where I could certainly still reduce weight is the backpack itself (3.2 kg) and in the sweater and sweatpants that I wear in the evening. They are quite “heavy” and bulky. For the hike in New Zealand I would optimize here again.
My remaining weight is food and 2-3 liters of water.
Today I tried a mantra during my running meditation. It goes like this: “left, right, left, right, left…” I think you can guess for yourselves how it goes on…. 😀
It works quite well. Much less distracting thoughts
I passed half of this year’s Camino today, 270 km since Burgos and still about 230 to go. Google fit shows me 284 km am. This is due to the distances I cover after work within the towns.
