Day 26 – Santiago de Compostela
39 km (752,5) 8h
The last stage before Santiago was quite unspectacular. The trail markers have counted off the kilometers more continuously, so that I have already not even looked to not be constantly reminded of how many kilometers I still have to stride
The weather was cloudy, but consistent. I managed the distance well with three breaks. I had an extremely delicious meal at noon, which fortified me for the remaining 10 km. Running into Santiago was a bit strange, unlike the rest of the Camino there were suddenly no markers at all, previously it was always the case that there was one somewhere every 20 to 500m. Arriving at the forecourt of the cathedral, I met about ten other pilgrims who were recovering from the exertions of the last weeks. None that I knew though, I eventually left them all behind
Around the corner, those who had walked at least the last 100 km could pick up an award, the Compostela. So it is also now official for me. But it feels a bit strange. Where others celebrate their 100 km, it feels for me, from the feet, legs and spirit, as if I could still run to the end of the world. And that is exactly what I will do in the next four days
