Day 28 – Oliveira
32 km (805) 7h
The first half of the day we walked along a river through the forest. It was wonderfully refreshing to walk between the trees
At breakfast I was forbidden to run barefoot. Luckily we could at least agree to stay in flip flops. Afterwards I noticed that there were signs everywhere forbidding barefoot walking. Seems to be a general problem there. The woman has no idea how beneficial it is to take off your boots after a few hours of walking
After that I walked the rest of the way only on tarred paths and roads. Our feet hurt a lot more today than usual. It’s amazing what a difference the surface you run on makes
What I find interesting is that I don’t get any lower back pain when I walk. When I go for a leisurely walk in the city, my back hurts after half an hour. I have two theories as to why that doesn’t happen here. Either it’s the speed at which I walk, and thus a different range of motion, or it’s the belly strap from the backpack supporting my back. The hard ground it is certainly only conditionally, I have here often also over many kilometers.
Actually, I wanted to swim today at the lake, but I had to take a detour of about 5 km. In addition I was not ready today. Instead I jumped again in a river. Unfortunately, this time the current was too strong to swim. Well, tomorrow I will finally be at the sea…
Thomas, who is also in Spain right now, asked me earlier if the supermarkets here in Galicia are also emptied. I haven’t noticed it yet, but I asked the barkeepers what that could be. She said that the high fuel prices lead to the fact that the transport companies refuse to drive.
