Porto – Destination
Distance day: 40 km
Total distance: 150 km
This morning I woke up to storming rain. Test passed! The tent holds tight. The rain off the clouds made for a sunny day throughout. I barely kept up with the water on top, which leaked all over my body
The complete last 30 km before Porto were developed for the hiking friend with a wooden path. The way went the whole time by a dune nature reserve. One was pointed out every few meters that here the dunes are reforested for the people. Thank you very much! 🙂
The persistent heat made me extremely tired, so I had to take a lot of breaks. The best stop was at a more upscale seafood restaurant. At first the waitress didn’t really know what to do with the sweaty bag that was standing in front of her. Even the French, who obviously didn’t bring the right shoes on vacation, were much better dressed than I was in my worn-out rags. As it is in Portugal, the restaurant can be upscale and you still get something to eat without having to take off your pants. It wasn’t better than the “local” restaurant the day before though, there was just more cutlery
The last few kilometers before Porto, the beach suddenly became a sea of rocks that continued hidden under the water invisible. This caused the waves to break a few times before they reached the rocks for their final impact. As already described during my visit to Muxia, I become a bigger and bigger fan of bursting water on stone
When finally the highway bridge of Porto was visible, it felt like a real relief for the soul. I had after already nearly 40 km hardly still desire to accomplish further steps. Unfortunately, it was clear that I still had to cross the water and face the steep climb into the city center to get to my hostel at Sao Bento station
Once at the top, I reached my goal, in 4 days instead of 5, and left 150 km of track along the Portuguese coast behind me. I have great desire on occasion to master the Camino de Santiago, along the coast, north of Porto. That would be about 250 km. Let’s see if I can get that in before New Zealand
