Equipment for Te Araroa in New Zealand
Attached you will find the compilation of all the equipment that I will take with me on my 5 month hike in New Zealand. I have divided it into clothing, once the one that I will mainly wear on the body, and the one I still carry as a spare in the backpack with me. Furthermore, I still have equipment that does not fall into the category of clothing. So everything from cooking stuff to sleeping stuff
The total weight in the backpack (base weight) is about 11 kg
In addition, water and food depending on the stages
I have inspired me with other bloggers and my own experiences during my hike in New Zealand 2019. Here I had learned the “hard” way that less is certainly better. Let’s see what I can still do without so everything on my trip, or what I may be missing
Basically, I tried to reduce weight where it makes sense. However, I have not bought super expensive equipment just for the hell of it, just to save a little money. Where possible I try to use things for multiple functions. For example, I can roll up the blue jacket into a pillow
Clothes
In the picture above you can see all the clothes I take with me to New Zealand. Only one pair of shoes will come with me on the trek and the other two pairs will be stored at my friend Logan’s place in Wellington. When one pair has expired, he can then send me a new pair that has already been broken in
As for the rest, I largely have everything in duplicate
Total weight of clothing is about 3 kg, with 1 kg worn on the body and the rest in the backpack.
